Between, by Jessica Warman

Between

Between

This cover is so magical.
The lonely girl on the swing, hiding her face (and her secrets) behind her hair.
The empty swings behind her speak to me of great losses.
Her feet partly hidden by clouds, make me think of a person who wants to flee from reality.
The wholeness of the cover tells me this story: a young woman, who has suffered great losses, is trying to escape reality by living in her imagination, but she is forced by the pain of her past and present to stay in the reality. The story in the book may of course be completely different.

A Natural History of The Romance Novel, by Pamela Regis

A Natural History of The Romance Novel

A Natural History of The Romance Novel

This cover is romance!
A young woman in a green gown, reading a book.
Dim bluish-green light surrounding her, like the round light from a candlelight.
In the "candlelight" a few clouds are shown - to me clouds represent dreaming, drifting away, relaxation, daydreaming.
The most of the cover is dark, which makes me think of secrets - and what is a romantic story without secrets?
The title and the author name are written with beautiful old writing Italic letters - this writing style has always been one of my favourites, because it makes me think of romance (and of fantasy/adventure, but that's another theme)

Emerald, by Karen Wallace

Emerald

This cover has a calm, soft glow to it. It is kept in the peaceful colours of green, blue and white. A little bit of red shown on the dress, almost hidden, speaks to me of secret passion, whether it be desire, anger or even revenge. The white dove symbolizes peace and/or innosense, but again, the red on the dress makes me think that all this peaceful outer is an illusion.

After Obsession, by Carrie Jones & Steven E. Wedel

After Obsession

After Obsession

The 'After Obsession' cover is dark and dangerous. The girl is completely lost, the darkness is swallowing her, slowly consuming her - or could it be that she is created from it? The colour of the title has some kind of sickness to it, mainly because of the rest of the cover (the colour alone could be used without making me think of 'evil sickness' lol
Even though this is a dark cover, then there's something calm about it, something peacefull in the darkness.

Storybound, by Marissa Burt

Storybound #1

Oh, wow!
This cover is amazing.
Normally I don't share a cover in my 'Books With Appealing Covers' blog unless it is a single novel or a completed book series (so I can share all the covers of the series in one post), but I just couldn't wait to share this one - I am completely blown away by its charm.
The warm earth colours, the mysterious lights, two children (and a pet) about to enter a door to another world through a tree that seems to have a life of its own... it speaks of nature, magic, adventure, life, fairytales.... it just has IT ALL. I could stare at this cover for hours and hours and still find new stories that could be awaiting behind that door.
The cover is a story itself - and this is what makes a cover extremely appealing; when you can create your own stories just by looking at it.

Changing My Wardrobe, by Deb Hanrahan

Changing My Wardrobe

Changing My Wardrobe

This cover has a very strong effect on me; broken glass with a face in the reflection always has. It speaks to me of a broken identity and/or a broken mind.
This cover is light, but with a dark tone to it. The reason it has this effect, is because it is dark colours (dark blue, brown, grey, black), but it is the light shades of these dark colours that have been used. This gives the impression that though things may seem normal and good, then something dark and sad is hidden right underneath the surface.

Return To Sender, by Fern Michaels

Return To Sender

This cover is so warm and welcoming.
I feel an intense urge to follow the path and see what's on the other side of that garden gate.
Such beautiful inviting colours by the path - it reminds me of a secret garden of romance and adventure.

The Twilight Saga, by Stephenie Meyer

The Twilight Saga
- Stephenie Meyer

Twilight

New Moon

Eclipse

Breaking Dawn

These covers are all very simple, but powerful.
I love the symbolism of the 'Twilight' cover, at least the symbolism I make of it - The apple being handed towards the reader symbolises temptation: Bella's temptation is Edward and Edward's temptation is Bella. The apple is used in The Garden of Eden when Eva gives the apple to Adam and in Snow White when the evil queen hands the apple to Snow White - and I am sure the apple has been used in lots of other stories as well to symbolise temptation.
The 'Twilight' cover and the 'Breaking Dawn' cover are my favourites, perhaps because I find that those two have the strongest symbolism.

The Thirteen Hallows, by Colette Freedman

The Thirteen Hallows

I simply cannot resist a cover with a sword, especially not a sword as beautiful as this one. Of course, you can only see the handle and a bit of the blade, but I just so easily imagine this sword being swung elegantly in a fight.
It's a great blue that's been chosen as the dominant colour. Blue is my fav colour and though this shade of blue isn't my fav shade, then it fits the sword and the background of the city quite well.

The House at Tyneford: A Novel

The old beautiful house.
The young woman following the small path to the entrance.
The colours are warm and inviting.
From the cover it looks like a book I should like to read.

The Hakawati, by Rabih Alameddine

This cover is so simple and yet it has so many details.
The string pattern makes me think of adventure, bedtime stories and magic, but not magic in the fantasy way like 'Harry potter', another form of magic, like Aladin, Hodja from Pjort etc.
I like the blue/turquoise colour, it's a different shade than I am used to.

The Demon's Lexicon trilogy, by Sarah Rees Brennan

The Demon's Lexicon
- Sarah Rees Brennan

The Demon's Lexicon

The Demon's Covenant

The Demon's Surrender

These covers; there's so much power in them!

I'm a big fan of sword fighting, so of course the cover of book one 'The Demon's Lexicon' especially caught my attention. The scenery on the cover of book one also, in my opinion, has more power to it because of the strong supernatural wind in the background - forces of nature have always fascinated me.

The cover of book two 'The Demon's Covenant' has a touch of magic to it, ice cold dangerous magic.

The cover of book three 'The Demon's Surrender' speaks to me of a new time. Perhaps it's a time of evil that has risen. It is the orange sky that gives me this feeling of 'something-is-coming', 'something-is-rising' and though it is a beautiful sky, which can make you feel warm and wonderful, then it has this warning of dark powers to it.

What a wonderful cover.
It appeals to the romantic side of me.
A beautiful gown, a secret garden, a fantasy castle.
It speaks of fairytales, romance, good vs evil...
It speaks of magic and mystery...
I so want to read this book just by looking at the cover (and after having read the book description, I've added it to my to-read list on Goodreads)

Anxious Hearts, by Tucker Shaw

Anxious Hearts
- Tucker Shaw

Anxious Hearts

This cover of golden sunlight makes me feel all warm and calm. The dress she wears and her beautiful hair, moving gently in the wind, makes me think of romance and innocense. The background being a forest in autumn colours makes me think of adventure and romance (it might not be adventure, but there's something to this cover that still makes me think of it). This is the kind of cover I can look at again and again and still feel that wonderful warm and calm feeling.

Wicked Lovely series, by Melissa Marr

Wicked Lovely

My favourite of these covers is 'Darkest Mercy'. What appeals to me is the celestial beauty (which especially is shown on this cover), though I must say that I also have a thing for the cover of the first book 'Wicked Lovely', it shows perfectly what the Winter Girl is going through of ice cold pain. I like the colour theme of blue and purple.
